Speaking Healthcare™: A trustee’s guide to healthcare terms and abbreviations was created by governWell and customized by HTNYS to help hospital and health system trustees better understand the complex and often confusing language used in healthcare. It includes over 1,000 words used in briefings, documents and discussions in the boardroom.

The book is useful for new or veteran trustees. We encourage you to share this resource with your board members and include it as part of your new board member orientation.

This 2025 version replaces the 2020 version previously available.
